Quarry given longer life
Wednesday 5th November 2008, 10:00AM GMT.
The life of a Shropshire quarry, which provides stone for the restoration of some of the country’s most prestigious buildings, is to be extended by 15 years.
Shropshire County Council planners yesterday agreed the extension at Grinshill Quarry, near Wem.
The planning consent for quarrying operations expires in February and the quarry company had sought a 25-year extension.
But a report from officers said restricting permission to 15 years would strike the correct balance between the needs of the operator and the need to preserve the amenities of the area.

Grinsill is a rather wierd place. I went their for a walk with a friend one evening, and the woodland car park was full of men sat in cars reading books. Is there some weird outdoor male reading society that meets there?
