Lonely terrier looking for love

Jake Roberts and his lonely dog PerkinsCute, strong and looking dapper in a dicky bow tie – Perkins the dog should have female wannabe companions flocking around his paws.

But despite his good looks and faithful character, the Jack Russell terrier is still to find the special lady in his life.

In fact, the situation has reached such a point that his owner John Roberts, of Heathgates Bank, Shrewsbury, has become so frustrated by his pet’s constant howling that he has issued an appeal in the hope of finding him a mate.

Mr Roberts, who lives at the house with his wife Lyn and six-year-old Perkins, said he had even set his pooch up with his own e-mail address and modelling portfolio but had not yet received any suitors.

He said: “Perkins is a 50 per cent smooth and 50 per cent rough-haired Jack Russell. He is a most dapper little chap, now six years old and has done a very good job running his human subordinates very well.

“He looks after the household with a determined attack at the windows upon any who dare step on his patch, only to greet them at the door when opened.

“But we are becoming increasingly disturbed by his constant whining and howling whenever a female dog walks by.

“I have set him up his own e-mail address in case anyone wanted to apply. He’s very distressed because he’s had no messages or phone calls whatsoever.”

The head river bailiff and chairman of the Shropshire Anglers Federation said he often took Perkins out with him when carrying out his job but had to keep him on a tight lead to avoid him chasing any females.

He said: “Being a fisheries bailiff the old chap is with me most times and he sees a lot of girlie dogs frequently, try as he might I have protected these girlie dogs from him.

“We need help; when he starts howling after Alsatians, we fear for his mental state.

“He has a modelling portfolio of photos and has made two or three feature films on DVD, so he is a star in his own right.”

Anybody who thinks they may be able to provide Perkins with a mate is asked to send their name and telephone number along with photos of a female Jack Russell to perkins@oldcolonial.org.uk
