Theories require an element of ‘faith’

LETTER - The letter headed “Theories are tried and tested” (October 25) from Neil Abbott is actually a contradiction.

A theory by definition includes “a series of assumptions” and where evolution is concerned assumptions will always be necessary because the vast time spans proposed, cannot be replicated in the laboratory.

Charles Darwin was honest enough, in later life, to admit that he had not found evidence of one species changing into another. This still holds true today.

Dating processes, I believe, depend on two basic premises; firstly that everything started at immaturity, and secondly that there have been no major cataclysms in the intervening periods.

The Bible account begins with an adult creation and very early into the record depicts a major change in the Earth’s climatic conditions.

The evidence of water-laid fossil beds on every continent, demonstrates that these have experienced major deluges.

Blind faith is not expected of those who believe in the account of creation contained in the Bible.

We can examine the precise order, design, interdependence, and beauty in creation.

Evolution in its numerous guises, is still no more than theories which require faith.

The evidence suggested by Neil Abbott has not materialised and that is why the theories are still in evolution.
