Wolves boss Mick McCarthy will not temper his attacking philosophy as his Coca-Cola Championship leaders travel to Cardiff tonight (5.30pm).

The Welsh side, under former Wolves boss Dave Jones, have established themselves as serious title contenders having moved up to third in the table.

Yet McCarthy, whose side lead the table by a point from Birmingham, has no intention of playing a cagey game in today’s late kick-off at Ninian Park.

He said: “We’ve had the gloves off every game and will continue to do so – we’ll be 4-4-2 again.

“Thinking back to last season, we had good unbeaten runs but with a few draws in there.

“And that’s never as productive as winning games – we know that.

“So try and win them, that’s the way I look at it. That’s why we’ve been scalped a couple of times but we will still be trying to win the games.”

Wolves have won their last two matches to reclaim top spot from Birmingham, and beat Swansea on Tuesday with two goals from Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

Cardiff trail Wolves by six points but are unbeaten in six games – four of which they have won – and go into the game high on confidence.

Jones said: “It has got all the ingredients to be a great game.

“They are top, we are lying third. We want to get them a little closer to us, they want to break away from us.

“It is going to be a tough game, they are the leading goalscorers and have had the most wins in the division,” added the former Wolves boss.
