Sports star backs libraries

Thursday 30th October 2008, 11:30AM GMT.

Colin JacksonFormer top athlete Colin Jackson will be in Mid Wales next week as part of a national campaign to promote the use of libraries.

Designed to encourage everyone to take a fresh look at their library, the Happy Days campaign was launched earlier this month by the Welsh Assembly Government.

It is part of the Assembly Government’s commitment to promote the country’s libraries.

Colin, now a TV presenter and sports commentator, is visiting Coleg Powys in Newtown to speak to students on November 6. He will also be taking a look around the college’s learning resources centre.

This will be followed by a ticket-only question and answer session at Newtown Library, from 3pm. The limited number of free tickets are available on a first-come first-served basis from the library.

To find out more about the campaign, or for tickets, call (01686) 626934.
