Tests to ID river body
Tuesday 28th October 2008, 11:50AM GMT.
Police were today waiting to find out the identity of a woman whose body was pulled out of the River Severn near Bridgnorth.
Detectives yesterday said they were examining the possibility the body could be that of missing Shrewsbury mum Mandy Franks.
However, they are still appealing for information about the 40-year-old mum and treating her as a missing person.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out at Sandwell Hospital later today.
The body was spotted floating near Apley, close to the A442 Bridgnorth to Telford road, by a fisherman just after 10am yesterday.
Police attended the scene and called for assistance from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service who recovered the body at about 11.30am.
Maria Hawkaluk, spokeswoman for West Mercia police, said: “A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out at Sandwell Hospital this afternoon.”
Miss Franks, of Belle Vue, Shrewsbury, was last seen outside Montgomery’s Tower, Shrewsbury, on October 5.
