Gunnell’s sights set on Bahrain

Adrian Gunnell hopes to go global this week – by booking his place in the inaugural Bahrain Snooker Championship.
The Shropshire cueman is two victories away from sealing a berth in the Middle East ranking tournament next month.
Tomorrow he will face either David Morris or Rodney Goggins at Prestatyn, with the winner meeting Michael Holt in final qualifying on Thursday for a place in the last 32 in Bahrain.
“It’s not a part of the world I’ve been to but it would be great to be involved,” said the 36-year-old from Telford. “It’s the first time the tournament has been held and they don’t do things by halves over there.”
Gunnell will be looking to build on his run to the last 16 of the Royal London Watches Grand Prix earlier this month, which raised hopes of breaking into the top 32 in the world rankings for next season.
“I’m a lot more upbeat about things and I’m just going to go out and play as positively as I can,” said the provisional world No 31.
“I enjoy it more when I play like that and it gives me a better chance of frightening my opponent a bit.”
