Monday 27th October 2008, 1:00PM GMT.
The body of a woman was found in the River Severn, near Bridgnorth, today after being spotted by an angler.
Police said today they were examining the possibility the body could be that of missing Shrewsbury mum Mandy Franks. She has been missing since October 5.
Officers were called out just after 10am to the Apley area, where the body was recovered. They revealed the body was reported to them by an angler who had seen it floating down stream from Apley, near to the A442 Bridgnorth to Telford road.
Police who went to the scene then called for assistance from the Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The body was collected and recovered by the fire service shortly before 11.30am.
The coroner for south Shropshire Anthony Sibcy has been informed. A police spokesman said: “We will be seeking to establish the identity as soon as possible.”
Suzie Fothergill, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “We were called just after 10.30am and one of our incident support officers confirmed the death.”
