Officers will tackle youth crime

Monday 27th October 2008, 8:00AM GMT.

Sue Tomlinson, Steve Harris and Amy ClarkeA team of officers has been set up to tackle the problem of anti-social behaviour by young people in Shropshire by diverting them into more constructive projects.

The youth inclusion unit is made up of Constable Steve Harris and community support officers Sue Tomlinson and Amy Clarke, with further CSOs to be appointed in the future.

The three officers have the specific responsibility to divert young people away from crime and anti-social behaviour. They will be working with individuals, groups, parents and partner agencies such as councils in the areas affected.

One of the biggest areas the team will look at is to increase the levels of police involvement in schools.

Constable Harris said: “The aim is to ensure professional input in all schools across Shropshire, concentrating on the issues and areas that police have specific knowledge about, such as bullying, crime, rights and responsibilities, drugs and anti-social behaviour.”

One of the schemes put in place was a summer graffiti project, which saw youngsters produce a giant mural.

The youth inclusion unit can be contacted at Shrewsbury Police Station on 08457 444888.

The fact we have a Police service instead of a Police force says it all.

Officers will deter youth crime by rewarding youths who misbehave with all expense holidays.

It’s nowt to do with what you call it – its the abject failure of (having) responsiblity at all levels (including young people) – the other part of the freedoms which the neo-Conservatives of the 1980-90s never told people they must have for these new freedoms to work.

now – it’s not “because I have worked for it” anymore it’s “I deserve it because I want it”.

What a mess Maggie what a mess. (and Blair’s shame for not turning it around when times were good).
