We’ll be back from blip, says Iwelumo
Friday 24th October 2008, 11:44AM BST.
Chris Iwelumo is confident Wolves will learn from their mistakes as they bid to bounce back from Tuesday’s hammering by Norwich at Watford tomorrow.
Wolves were thrashed 5-2 at Carrow Road to lose top spot in the Coca-Cola Championship and, after three defeats in four games, form is a concern.
Boss Mick McCarthy strongly criticised the players’ performance and called them in on their day off on Wednesday to review the game.
“I think too many players had an off day – myself included – and it’s one of those things you have to look at, building on any little positives and working on the negatives,” said Iwelumo, who has had a tough few weeks after infamously missing an open goal on his Scotland debut.
“It was just an off night with a few individual errors and we all know how goals can change matches. We just have to tighten up all over the pitch and start defending from the front like we always do and take it from there.”
Despite recent results, Wolves trail rivals Birmingham by just two points going into tomorrow’s clash with Watford at Vicarage Road.
The 30-year-old said: “Even after a result like that you look at the table and we’re sitting in second place, six points clear of fourth, and you have to remember how well we’ve done.”
Wolves will be forced into at least one change from the side which were beaten at Norwich as defender Richard Stearman is suspended after his sending off at Carrow Road.
Jason Shackell is expected to deputise.
