Rare items go under hammer
Tuesday 21st October 2008, 7:59AM BST.
A unique piece of royal memorabilia that shows early evidence of the “behind closed doors” relationship between Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles is set to be auctioned in south Shropshire.
The Fortnum & Mason circular chocolate box dating from late 1970s is festooned with graffiti and comments by the couple.

Historical items expert at Mullocks’ Auctions, Richard Westwood-Brookes, said: “This is clearly the product of a jovial evening between Charles and Camilla who as we now know today were very much in love at this time. Some of the comments are somewhat ribald!”
Mr Westwood-Brookes said the box had been given to member of staff at Blenheim Palace before making its way into the hands of the Church Stretton auctioneers.
The box which features and original Regency picture of Mr Fortnum and Mr Mason-as well as the scrawlings of the pair, is expected to reach up to £600. And a fan of The Beatles had a “Ticket to Ride” when she put a set of autographs of the Fab Four up for auction in Shrewsbury.
The autographs, contained on a ticket stub, sold for £2,300 at Halls’ fine art saleroom in on Friday after keen competition from two bidders.
The local buyer, a keen fan of The Beatles, held off competition from an eBay bidder and managed to secure the prized stub.
The original owner of the stub, who lives in Oswestry, collected the autographs when The Beatles played Whitchurch Civic Hall before they became famous and hit the big time in 1962.

This might have done in kindy. What a pathetic vulgar immature pair are Fred W and Gladys P-B with their woeful lavatory ‘humour’ To think that this appalling creep is to be our (i.e. Australia’s) next Head of State. Bring on the Republic!

The other “appalling creep” is no doubt going to be the next Queen of England and everything else that goes with it. Count me out, what have we come to. I will be very sorry to see Australia and possibly others become a Republic Judy but we only have ourselves to blame by allowing the Royal
Family and the myriad “hangers on” to become like a family out of Neighbours, Coronation Street or Eastenders. I feel sorry for the Queen, but the rest, well!.
