Reman Services have become the first Shropshire cricket club to reject the chance of promotion to the Birmingham League.Reman Services have become the first Shropshire cricket club to reject the chance of promotion to the Birmingham League.

The Shrewsbury-based side were runaway champions of the Marston’s Shropshire Premier League this year, but have declined the opportunity to move up the pyramid to a higher level.

Reman would have had to form a third team – and found a ground for them to use – to have been eligible for promotion.

“After comprehensive discussions involving all club members and investigation of all option, Remain Services have decided to remain in the Shropshire Premier Cricket League for the 2009 season,” said club chairman Ken Price.

“The club acknowledges we are the first club from the SPCL to decline the opportunity, but wish to build upon what is a solid club structure.

“This decision does not display lack of ambition, but will ensure that we are fully prepared for promotion should we be in a similar position in the future.”

That leaves a question mark hanging over the composition of Shropshire’s top flight for the 2009 campaign, something which should be resolved by the next league meeting on October 27.

Bottom placed Broseley may yet be relegated, while FBC Manby Bowdler champion Allscott are waiting a ground inspection from Shropshire Cricket Board Officials.
