Parents’ tribute to brave Jamie
Saturday 18th October 2008, 8:30AM BST.
Twenty-two-year-old Jamie Rogers was told eight weeks ago there was nothing more the doctors could do for him.
The reaction of the brave father-of-one was to thank the doctors who had helped him and enjoy the time he had left.
After suffering with a brain tumour for seven years, he died at home in Meole Brace, Shrewsbury, last Thursday – his last words were to tell his mum Nancy and dad Dave that he loved them.
But his bravery and courage throughout his illness has inspired his family and friends who say his humour and his smile lasted to the end.
His dad Dave said: “He was brave and charismatic. He lived for his family, he loved his family, those were his last words, he told me and his mum that he loved us.”
His mum Nancy added: “Even at the end he never let his illness get him down, he was still laughing and joking.
“We really want to thank all of the people who helped Jamie, the Hospice at Home, Marie Curie and Macmillan nurses and the chemotherapy ward.”
Jamie was diagnosed in 2001 at the age of 15 and left Meole Brace Secondary School shortly after.
As well as liking boxing, Jamie was a huge Liverpool fan and the club sent his family a letter and a signed Stephen Gerrard photo after the news of Jamie’s death.
Friends have also paid tribute to Jamie on social networking site Facebook.
One tribute from Chloe Jehu reads: “Jamie, you were one in a million.”
Jamie leaves his mum and dad, sisters Cheryl and Paula, brothers Jason, Rob, Paul, Mike, Gary and Nicky and a 16-month-old son.
His funeral was due to be held this morning at Meole Brace Church.
