Three to thank for peaceful angling

LETTER – Many of your readers will know of the pool at Radbrook Green in Shrewsbury. It is well used as a beautiful area for walks, observing wildlife and angling.

Situated as it is in the middle of a large housing estate, there is potential for difficulty in managing the amenity for the mutual benefit of visitors, anglers and local residents.

In the past, there have been problems with illegal anglers causing nuisance and displaying anti-social behaviour. However, thanks to a co-ordinated effort by the local council and the Shropshire Anglers Federation, there has been great improvement in the general management of the area.

Over a period of many years, Michael Cox, of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council, has worked tirelessly towards achieving a successful balance in considering the needs of all users of Radbrook Green Pool and residents who live nearby.

He deserves high praise for the calm and resolute manner with which he has approached his task.

More recently, Sir John Roberts, chairman of the Shropshire Anglersâ Federation, has made his presence felt by frequently attending the pool and intervening to deter illegal anglers.

The presence of a local bailiff has also been especially efficacious in ensuring that bona fide anglers are able to enjoy their pastime without causing adverse effects for others. He is to be seen working voluntarily in all weathers.

I wish to extend my thanks to these three gentlemen for their efforts. I hope that your readers will join me in showing gratitude for their work and to support them in whatever way we can.

A R Parker, Shrewsbury
