Edwards wary of ‘pub team’ danger

Dave EdwardsWolves midfielder Dave Edwards is hoping his club manager’s scathing condemnation of Liechtenstein holds true tomorrow.

The former Shrewsbury Town ace is warning his Wales team mates they must not slip up against a team disregarded by Molineux boss Mick McCarthy as a “pub team.”

The 22-year-old is alongside Wayne Hennessey and Sam Vokes in chasing a World Cup place and knows the Group Four minnows must be dispatched in tommorow’s qualifier at the Millennium Stadium.

“The only things I know about Liechtenstein is Germany beat them 6-0 the other week,” said Edwards.

“And when I spoke to my manager at Wolves, Mick McCarthy, about them, all he said was ‘pub team’.

“I’m sure they’re not a pub team but whatever happens three points is the key.

“Anything other than a win would not be good enough for the quality of players in this Wales squad.”

Edwards is set to join Vokes in starting in John Toshack’s Wales midfield in the absence of hamstring injury victim Joe Ledley.

Wales were frustrated by the unknowns of Azerbaijan in their opening World Cup qualifier in Cardiff before Vokes grabbed a late winner.

“Azerbaijan showed us that we must be patient against those type of teams,” said Edwards.

“That game will stand us in good stead because they will set out to defend and we must show creativity.”
