Title hopes fall foul of downpours

Monday 6th October 2008, 11:50AM BST.

balls.jpgShropshire and Herefordshire golfers’ bid for a first Midland League title fell foul of the heavy weekend rain.

Yesterday’s scheduled clash with fellow title-chasers Nottinghamshire was postponed because the course at Shifnal Golf Club was flooded.

Officials are now hoping the match can be played on Sunday, October 26 – by which time Nottinghamshire will have played their outstanding fixture against Warwickshire

County secretary Bob Davies said the washout was a great disappointment but stressed that the rearranged fixture sets up a fitting finale.

“Notts will have played their outstanding match against Warwickshire by then.

“Because of the outstanding fixture we would not have known if we had won the league, had we lost yesterday.”
