Police reveal identity of body
Monday 6th October 2008, 11:50AM BST.
The body of a pensioner pulled from the River Severn near Ironbridge was today named by police as Reginald Prince.
Mr Prince, 68, was found in the river near Sweyney Drive, Coalport, by a dog walker on Wednesday.
Roger Hotchkiss, landlord of the Brewery Inn in Coalport, today paid tribute to Mr Prince, a regular in the pub.
Mr Hotchkiss said: “Reg was very friendly with me. We would talk when he was over and he enjoyed life.
“He was a really nice chap. Everytime he came over house-sitting he came to see me.”
Mr Hotchkiss, who was one of the last people to see his friend alive, added: “On Tuesday when Reg left here, he was very jovial, in a happy mood as usual.
“It is tragic because he was a lovely man.
“People loved him. He came into the pub and always spoke to everyone and they enjoyed his company. You couldn’t dislike him, he was lovely. It’s so sad.”
Detective Inspector Mick Homden urged anyone who saw Mr Prince, of West Bromwich, after he left The Brewery Inn at 8.05pm on Tuesday to contact Shrewsbury police.
Mr Prince was described as white, about 5ft 9ins, of thin build with short grey hair. He may have been wearing glasses and was dressed in a black duffel coat, fawn coloured polo shirt, dark brown corduroy trousers and black shoes.
