Family and friends of one of three young people killed in an horrific crash are due to tour Oswestry’s nightspots tonight with a road safety message to try to prevent further tragedies.

The fundraising by those who knew Corrine Thomas coincides with a major campaign to cut collisions on rural roads, to be launched in the town later this month.

Corrine, 24, from Ellesmere, Kiera Smyth, 18, also from Ellesmere, and Robert McLoughlin, 19, from Liverpool, died after their car crashed on the A495 Ellesmere to Oswestry road on May 17.

Corrine’s mother, Mrs Olwen Sides and best friend, Kate Williams, will be among a group in fancy dress visiting pubs in Oswestry tonight to raise money for the road safety charity BRAKE.

Corrine’s younger sister and her five-year-old son have been helped by literature produced by BRAKE and Mrs Sides said the charity also ran safety awareness projects.

“If we can help get the message across here in Oswestry we might just prevent another family going what we are going through,” she said.

Oswestry’s young drivers are also being targeted in a major safety campaign to cut down on deaths and injuries on rural roads.

A town centre car park frequented by teenage and young drivers will be transformed into a road safety awareness night and a handful of drivers will get the chance to have a free “drive check”.

Oswestry Motor Safe will run on the town’s coach park and Somerfield overflow park on October 23 between 6pm and 8pm.
