Town striker fights for future
Saturday 4th October 2008, 1:30PM BST.
Forgotten Shrewsbury Town striker Guy Madjo has refused a loan move to Blue Square Premier clubs – because he still has burning ambitions of being involved in the Cameroon national team.
The 24-year-old has rejected temporary moves to a clutch of lower league clubs, including Rushden & Diamonds and Torquay United, despite being told by Town manager Paul Simpson that he is some distance from breaking into his considerations.
“If it’s a League club then I would consider going out on loan, but personally I have my plan and ambitions so I don’t want to go back to the Conference,” pleaded Madjo.
“When I first signed for Bristol City (in 2005) I went back to Conference on loan and it took me three seasons to get back into the League, so I want to keep myself in the League.
“I will be part of my national side in two years time so I just want to make sure I keep playing as high as possible and make sure it’s easier to get involved with the national team.”
Madjo made 15 first team appearances in blue and amber after joining the club from Crawley Town for £20,000 at the start of the calendar year, but has not featured this season.
Rushden & Diamonds and Torquay offered him the chance to get some invaluable pitch time, but Madjo is content to bide his time.
“The gaffer told me that I’m so far away from this team at the moment,” he added. “What I’m trying to do is keep working and see if something happens.
“If a League club comes in maybe I will be moving on loan. If not, maybe I will consider moving abroad in the January transfer window.
“It’s a big decision for me because not playing is frustrating. Sometimes I’m training with the youth team – that’s not me.
“I still believe I have the ability.”
Madjo is under contract at the Prostar Stadium until the end of the 2009-10 season and has Grant Holt, Richard Walker, Michael Symes and Dave Hibbert ahead of him in the pecking order.
