Boss Rob Smith and assistant Larry Chambers both had strong words for the former Tamworth man as they addressed a fans forum at the New Bucks Head this week.

Moore, the club’s £5,000 record signing, came close to leaving in the summer – initially holding out for improved terms.

He eventually signed on the dotted line but has struggled to hold down a regular place in the team this season, though he was expected to be involved in this afternoon’s Blue Square North clash with Workington.

Smith and Chambers certainly spelt out their hopes and fears for arguably the club’s most maverick talent as they held court at the fans forum on Thursday evening.

“You just want to throttle him because he doesn’t realise his own potential,” said Smith.

“He could end up in parks football or in pro football – he’s at a crossroads and he needs to decide.

“He should be scoring 15 or 20 goals a season.

“I think he’s a natural winger and that’s where he probably feels more comfortable, but I think he should step up and be a forward.”

Chambers added: “Of all the players at this club, Lee Moore is the one who frustrates me the most.

“He’s got so much talent and could play at a higher level, but he lacks the desire to push himself as hard as he should, and he doesn’t score as many goals as he should.

“We did everything we could to keep him in the summer, but we think he needs to ask questions of himself – or he will never fulfil his potential.”
