River body police seek witnesses

Friday 3rd October 2008, 11:40AM BST.

Police were today trying to trace the last movements of an elderly man whose body was found in the River Severn at Coalport.

The body of the man, whose identity has not been revealed, was recovered from the river near Sweyney Drive, Coalport, about 6.30pm on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Mick Homden said today: “At the moment there is nothing to indicate it is suspicious, but we do want to establish his movements in the 24 hours before the body was found.

“He was last seen coming out of the Brewery Inn in Coalport at about 7.30pm on Tuesday, walking in the direction of Coalport bridge.

“I would appeal to anyone who saw him leaving the pub or knows anything to contact Shrewsbury CID on 08457 444888.”
