Red Arrows in county ‘thank you’
Thursday 2nd October 2008, 2:14PM BST.
The world famous Red Arrows put on a dazzling display over Shropshire today to say a special thank you to airbase staff and landowners. The Royal Air Force’s aerobatics team performed above RAF Shawbury this afternoon.
The team’s display was a thank you to the Shawbury-based Central Flying School Squirrel helicopters, which provide assistance throughout the display season by taking team members to shows around the country.

It was also expected to be the climax of the annual landowners’ visit to experience first- hand the training provided for students of the three armed services at the base.
The landowners’ visit was arranged to thank farmers and landowners who had generously provided essential training facilities used to familiarise students with the difficulties of operating away from airfields.
Squadron Leader Neil Hope, RAF Shawbury spokesman, said: “We greatly appreciate the valuable contribution made by our neighbours throughout Shropshire, and beyond, in supporting the vital training carried out from RAF Shawbury, especially those who allow us to use their land for field exercises.
“Without these essential facilities our students would not be prepared for their next stage of training and, ultimately, for the demanding operational missions they will be required to fly both at home and overseas.”
