Jobs blow as dealership to close
Wednesday 1st October 2008, 11:50AM BST.
Four jobs are being shed by a Shropshire motor company which today announced plans to close one of its Telford dealerships.
William A Lewis is to shut its Volvo service and sales operation in the Stafford Park industrial estate. It will integrate the business into its Shrewsbury site.
In a statement today, the company said: “The recent economic downturn has resulted in this rationalisation.”
Eight workers from the Telford plant have been found alternative posts but four jobs have gone.
Adrian Frearson, the company’s Volvo franchise manager, said: “We are currently in the process of informing our Telford customers that the Stafford Park dealership will close from October 31 when we shall be incorporating both workshop and sales into our Shrewsbury operation.
“But it is important to reassure our customers that we hope to minimise any inconvenience to them during the transition period.
“The Shrewsbury business is well capable of coping with the demands of our customers in Shropshire and it is hoped that customers who have not yet visited the site will do so.
“They will enjoy a warm welcome and we will explain how we will be extending our collection and delivery service to the Telford area.”
