Joy of six as Fields take title

bowls.jpgCastlefields were confirmed as Furrows Shropshire Premier Bowls League champions on the night that the fate of rock bottom Donnington Wood became clear.Fields got the two points they need to be champs for a record sixth time when they beat visiting Ford 10-4 last night.

Donnington, who had finished their programme in midweek, were informed that their relegation play-off against Worthington Mid Shropshire League champions Bowring will be next Friday on the big green at St Georges (7pm).

Back on the green, Chester Road clinched third place in the final table with a 13-1 home romp against Sir John Bayley, pushing former leaders Wem USC down to fourth after their 9-5 loss at Bylet.

Archibald Worthington finished the season on a high with a three chalk win at Ifton and Wrockwardine Wood completed a fine year with an 8-6 success at Newport.

* Burway were crowned Tanners Shropshire League champions last night – the first from south Shropshire – without playing!They finished top after town rivals Ludlow Castle lost 9-5 at Battlefield while Pontesbury’s 13-1 home win over Royal Mail was not enough.
