Hearing on top school’s ex-teacher

Saturday 27th September 2008, 11:50AM BST.

A former Shropshire public school teacher – suspended from his role after an Easter trip – will go before the General Teaching Council for a disciplinary hearing next week.

Michael Clarkson, a former classics teacher at Shrewsbury School, was suspended after a sixth form trip in 2006.

It is believed the incident happened on the school’s Spanish trip to El Puerto de Santa Maria, Andalucia, attended by 13 pupils.

A police investigation concluded no further action would be taken against Mr Clarkson, who is in his 30s.

Police refused to confirm the nature of the probe but details are expected to be revealed at the hearing on Wednesday in Birmingham.
