Fire crews attempt to save horse

Saturday 27th September 2008, 11:50AM BST.

Firefighters were called to help a horse on a Shropshire farm today after it was unable to get up.

Its owners discovered the horse lying down at 6.40am today at their farm in Waters Upton.

Despite several attempts to try to get the animal up, they were forced to call fire crews from Wellington Fire Station.

Firefighters made attempts to get the horse up and the elderly horse was put down by a vet about an hour-and-a-half later.

Sub officer Ian Leigh, of Wellington Fire Station said: “The horse owners had come down and found the horse lying down, unable to get back up.

“It was quite an old horse.”
