Bevan buoyed up by spell on loan

scott-bevan.jpgShot-stopper Scott Bevan is hoping his loan spell at Torquay will breath life into his stagnating Shrewsbury career.Despite ending last season in the No 1 spot, Bevan has been forced to take a back seat in the battle for the goalkeeping jersey so far this term.

A summer knee injury did little to help his cause, while the arrival of Luke Daniels has seen Bevan slip further down the pecking order in a race which also includes Glynn Garner and Jasbir Singh.

Bevan has now been farmed out to Torquay for a month and was due to make his Blue Square Premier debut for the club in this afternoon’s trip to Wrexham.

The former Kidderminster man is excited about the prospect of returning to first-team duty after a four-month absence.

“It all happened quite quickly on Wednesday and Thursday but I’m pleased with it,” said the 29-year-old Bevan.

“It’s a good club at Shrewsbury and the set-up is fantastic.

“I really enjoy the training here but there is no point me sitting twiddling my thumbs when the chance of first-team football is there.”

Despite his temporary switch, Bevan is still hoping to force his way back into the thinking of Paul Simpson’s plans.

“It has been very frustrating,” he added. “I was in the team at the end of last season.

“I made a couple of mistakes but on the whole I felt I did alright and there was something to build on.

“I had the injury problem over the summer and the manager (Paul Simpson) brought someone in on loan because he only had one senior keeper in Glynn Garner.

“Luke’s done well and I have got no problems with that.

“I’ve got the chance now to go and get some games under my belt and that will help me move onto the next level.

“Hopefully that will mean coming back to Shrewsbury because until someone tells me I’ve got no future at the club, I will still believe I can get back in there.”
