Airbase ‘won’t be affected by theft’
Saturday 27th September 2008, 11:50AM BST.
Royal Air Force staff in Shropshire are unlikely to be affected by the theft of files containing personal records, officials said today.
Thieves stole files containing the personal records of thousands of serving and former RAF staff.
The information was stored on computer hard drives at the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency at RAF Innsworth, Gloucester.
Police are investigating the theft, which happened last Wednesday within a high-security area at the base.
RAF Shawbury spokesman Squadron Leader Neil Hope said today the theft should not affect anybody at the north Shropshire base.
The agency provides support services for some 900,000 serving and ex-service personnel. It is unclear what information was stored on the three disc drives taken and how many people’s records are affected.
An MoD spokesman said: “An investigation is being conducted by the MoD Police, with the support of Gloucestershire Police into the apparent theft of three USB portable hard disc drives. We are taking this incident extremely seriously.
“In view of the ongoing nature of police inquiries, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

No-one in North Shropshire affected, that’s ok then, what about the likes of me who served 12 years. No problem there then.

Obviously not THAT high security.
I would have thought that in the context of a military base high securty would mean armed military guards?
Or have Brownian cuts meant that security is now undertaken on our bases by local security firms like: “Me and My Dog?” or “Bodger and Waster?”
