All-day move in club licence bid
Thursday 25th September 2008, 11:50AM BST.
A Shrewsbury nightclub could open 24 hours a day under new licensing plans. The Buttermarket, in Howard Street, wants to serve refreshments until 5am Monday to Sunday. The application is revealed in a report to Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council’s licensing sub-committee which is due to discuss the proposals next week.
Club managers had hoped to include 24-hour opening under the bid but they today said that, following discussions with the police, they had agreed to do so using a Temporary Events Notice to cover specified events rather than having a blanket 24-hour licence.
A statement from the club says: “The Buttermarket recently applied for various variations to its licence. Agreement has now been reached prior to the licence hearing with the police licensing officer, allowing them to withdraw their representation as a responsible authority.
“The subject of 24-hour opening would now be covered by applying for a Temporary Events Notice.”
A report to councillors says West Mercia Police would retain the right to veto any extension.
Under the written notice system the club would be required to give almost a month’s warning for “high risk” events determined by a selected audience type or “due to the entertainment/music or style of event being run”.
The premises would also need to give 14 days’ notice for a sporting event or seven days’ notice for a “non-risk” event.
SABC’s environmental health manager David Wraith has objected to the application.

I find it amusing and also concerning that in the same edition of the Star that we find this snippet that the same police station are requesting information after a sixteen year old was assaulted at the club at 1245am, what was the said victim doing there during licencing hours and had he been partaking of Dr Glen Livets falling-down water? How come Sunny-Jim got through the net and what are the club and police going to do to counteract such matters?

Well I hope SABC respond to the needs of commerce who are only reponding to the demands of the consumer.
Good luck with your application!

No way should it be 24hr opening.
I would reduce all pubs and nightclubs to the following opening hours
6pm to 11pm.
and I would also ban all supermarkets/shops/off licences from selling alcohl this would prevent young children getting hold of alcohol and would also ensure pubs are busy from adults unable to buy alcohol from shops.

Y Mab: I dont know how you earn a living or even if you do. But do you want to restrict the free trade of any enterprise because you dont like it? I’m sure someone out there would find an issue with your livelihood – who you then restrict your activities in response?

a passport for strawberries! strawberry visa sounds a lovely dish to serve as a sweet. let them open 24 hours, and if there is any noise or trouble, then is the time to legislate. from my knowledge of the area there is not much housing nearby except hm inmates who might enjoy the late night crack.
y mad live a little in your strawberry fields for ever

Y Mab Darogan.
Please note there is no such thing as a watcman – strawberry or otherwise.
Your spelling always lets you down!!
I should “watch” how you spell things in future – otherwise there will be no promotion for you !
