Holt backs Town to keep up chase

Monday 22nd September 2008, 11:50AM BST.

Grant HoltStriker Grant Holt believes Shrewsbury Town have the staying power to sustain an automatic promotion assault.Town moved back on to the coat-tails of the top three with a 1-1 draw at Chester yesterday.

Holt grabbed the Town goal from the penalty spot, and the former Nottingham Forest forward insists there is no reason why his team can’t remain in and around the promotion battle.

“If you look at the table and we sit there all season pushing for the top three, we would be happy,” said Holt.

“I think we are a bit disappointed to be where we are at the moment. We would like to be in the top three.

“I think we are good enough to be there and I believe at the end we will be there.

“There are always things you have to work on. As a team we are still developing and learning how people play.

“People will say that we should know by now but you don’t – it takes a long time to know what the man next to you is thinking.

“We are getting there. Let’s just keep doing what we are good at and that’s passing the ball and grinding teams down.

“It was a real battle yesterday. It was what we expected but it’s a good point as long as we get all three (against Bradford) next week.”

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury’s medical staff were today keeping close tabs on Graham Coughlan.

The defender sustained a head injury early in yesterday’s encounter, and appeared groggy when substituted just before half-time.

“Graham got a crack on the head,” said manager Paul Simpson.

“At first he was okay – it was just a nick and a little bump on his temple.

“But after five or 10 minutes, he started to see the old comedy stars and didn’t know where he was.

“We couldn’t take any chances. We are talking about a game of football and you don’t put somebody’s life at risk.

“If you get another bang on the head, you have got serious trouble.

“He wanted us to give him a minute but we said no, you’re off.

“The signs are quite good and hopefully he will be fine for next week.”
