Workers offered cash to quit jobs

Staff at one of Telford’s biggest employers are each being offered a one-off payment of £5,000 if they agree to quit.

Bosses at Denso Manufacturing UK, in Hortonwood, announced this week that it was axing its nightshift.

Now, in a bid to accelerate its staff turnover, the firm’s 1,200 employees have been told that a one-off payment of £5,000 is available to those who go.

Alan Taylor, head of human resources at Denso, confirmed they had made an announcement to the workforce.

He said: “We don’t believe we need to do anything drastic or dramatic.

“We’ve said to the workforce that we have a number of associates that choose to leave the business every month.

“We believe that by offering a cash incentive we can increase the level of turnover.

“We have said to the workforce we don’t want to carry out major restructuring. This is purely us attempting to accelerate the normal staff turnover.”

But one employee, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “No-one will accept the £5,000 who has worked there 10 years or more because they are offering £5,000 to everyone, regardless of how many years’ service they’ve done.”

Bosses at the air conditioning equipment factory blamed the cut on the “current economic climate”.
