Manager Paul Simpson today targeted a super Sunday for Shrewsbury supporters with derby delight in tomorrow’s lunch crunch at Chester.

Town are expected to be backed by a travelling army in excess of 1,500 for their high noon showdown at the Deva Stadium.

And Simpson would love nothing more than to continue Shrewsbury’s encouraging start to the season – and provide a day to remember for their supporters.

“That’s the big thing with local derbies,” he said. “It’s just another game as it’s still only three points up for grabs.

“But it’s more than just another game to anyone connected with our football club. With our supporters it gives them the bragging rights which everyone talks about.

“We will have great support there and we have given them something to shout about on most of our journeys so far – let’s hope we do on the short one this weekend.”

Simpson acknowledges Chester have shown dramatic form improvements in recent weeks, but remains focused on getting the most of his own team.

“They are on a decent bit of form and they have got a system that is working well for them,” he added.

“I’m not sure who is going to play for them yet because Ryan Lowe went off injured last Saturday (at Grimsby) after half of the game).

“We will have to wait and see what side they pick. But I’m a big believer if we are right and if we go into it with the right mentality and concentration, I think we have got enough to cause any team a problem in this League.

“You have to respect the opposition and make sure you go in with the right frame of mind.”

Simpson is almost certain to stick with the same side which thumped Gillingham 7-0 last week, although Richard Walker could be pushing for a place on the bench after returning to training following a hamstring injury.

Michael Symes looks set to resume training next week, but midfield duo David Hunt and Paul Murray remain some way off being ready to follow suit.
