Hindford Methodist Chapel outing - about 1920.

Mr Harry Jones, who will be 92 in October, loaned us this picture which shows a Hindford Methodist Chapel outing – and a very young Mr Jones is somewhere on that crammed charabanc.

He says: “The photo was taken in the entrance to Llangollen cattle market alongside the then fire station. It was taken about 1920.

“I don’t remember if they were going any further or just topping up with water before attempting the Horseshoe Pass.

“My mum and dad and two older sisters, Mary and Edith, and one baby sister, Joyce, are part of the people on the charabanc. We lived down the lane in Hindford (near Whittington) at the time, at 9 Rose Cottage.

“My dad’s name was George Jones and my mum was Eliza. I was on this trip, of course, aged about four years.”

Mr Jones, from Rhos-y-Waun, Chirk, added: “Just behind the driver’s side there’s a little child with a white bonnet, being held up – it is my dad holding her up. You can just see his face behind her. My mother is standing up to the right of that child.”

Mr Jones is not certain where he is on the picture.

I don’t reconize anyone in the photo but I wonder if we have the same family connections, my great grandfather William Hughes from Welshpool married Sara Davies from Buttington. Their son Harry born 1904 was my grandfather.
