Jarvis delivers Wolves boost
Thursday 18th September 2008, 11:50AM BST.
Winger Matt Jarvis hopes to give Wolves an injury boost by declaring himself fit for Saturday’s clash with third-placed Preston North End.
Jarvis missed Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace with a groin injury sustained in the victory at Charlton last weekend.
But the 22-year-old wide man, who has been in top form in Wolves’ best start for 46 years, hopes to be involved at Deepdale, where he would make his 100th League start.
“It’s just a little sore on sprinting and stuff like that,” said Jarvis.
“I’ve been getting treatment on it and hopefully it will be alright for the weekend. I didn’t feel it during the game at Charlton but I felt it after I got off the bus and it still felt sore the next day.
“I was disappointed to miss out on Tuesday night because I didn’t want to stop playing – I just want to keep my form going and us to keep winning.
“But the lads did very well and got the result, and in the second half they looked comfortable.
“We’re confident going into every match but still taking every game as it comes so hopefully it just continues that way.
“Because we’re top, everyone is looking to beat us so Preston is going to be a very tough game – especially with the start they’ve had.”
Wolves are also hoping to have front man Chris Iwelumo available after missing the last two matches with a similar problem to Jarvis.
And Jarvis believes Iwelumo’s influence is one of the key factors in the club’s success so far.
“He can be great for us,” said Jarvis. “He’s already proved that by scoring five goals this season. He’s on fire at the moment.”
