Motorist injured in collision

Wednesday 17th September 2008, 11:50AM BST.

A woman driver was airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries following a crash which left a busy Telford road closed for almost an hour.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was flown to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent following the crash between her Citroen and a Mercedes box van at 2.30pm yesterday.

Motorists faced traffic chaos following the crash, which left the A464, between Randlay Interchange and Junction 4 of the M54 at Priorslee, closed for about 45 minutes.

The injured woman is not believed to have been seriously hurt and has been discharged from hospital.

Meanwhile, a man whose car smashed into an electricity pole in Hanwood, near Shrewsbury, remained in a critical but stable condition in hospital today.

The 20-year-old driver suffered a lift-threatening head injury following the crash on the A488 outside the Cock Inn on Saturday.

Anyone with information about either collision is asked to call 08457 444888.
