Oakley fraud trial set to start
Tuesday 16th September 2008, 11:50AM BST.
The trial of Shropshire businessman David Oakley, who is accused of fraud, was due to start at Shrewsbury Crown Court this afternoon.
Recorder Denis Desmond told the jury that Oakley, 62, would not be attending his trial.
Oakley, of Salters Lane, Shrewsbury, faces three charges of running travel and holiday firms while banned from managing or being the director of a company. He is also alleged to have operated the companies with the intention of defrauding customers.
He also denies using forged cheques and obtaining money by deception and a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
