Off mark Fearns may pay penalty

Terry FearnsAFC Telford United assistant manager Larry Chambers hinted that there may be changes for Saturday’s trip to Gateshead after a disappointing 0-0 draw against Fleetwood Town.

Striker Terry Fearns is the obvious casualty having extended his goalless run to seven matches with a second penalty miss of the season.

Youngster Jarred Stevens replaced Fearns shortly after that second half miss and may now be line for a run in the starting line-up.

“It’s an option,” admitted Chambers. “Jarred has done well when he’s come on and he’s scored midweek, but we’ve got a week to think about that.

“Obviously Fearnsy doesn’t miss the penalty on purpose but at the same time those things change games.

“He has gone seven games without scoring now and I think in the last couple of weeks it’s shown, but particularly on Saturday.

“That was a fantastic opportunity to break his drought and it hasn’t happened for him.

“From 12 yards the keeper shouldn’t get near it so it was a poor penalty in my eyes.”

The Bucks had plenty of possession against a struggling Fleetwood side but failed to create enough chances to make the breakthrough.

Chambers added: “I think our passing was poor and I thought that our decision making was poor.

“I thought that at times we had good opportunities where we had three on three a we chose the wrong option and from that point of view it was disappointing, it really was.

“We just lack a bit of composure in the final third. We had freekicks and corners and nothing came of them.

“Fleetwood came out with three attackers so I give them credit for giving it a go.

“We’ve kept a cleansheet and I think generally we did okay, but that’s not the main problem – the problem is offensively.”

Fearns has a proven record. He will be back and scoring goals. That is a cold hard FACT
