Ferry on trial for robbery
Monday 15th September 2008, 11:50AM BST.
A group of animal rights activists arrived at court today for the robbery and assault trial of rock star’s son Otis Ferry.
Countryside campaigner Ferry, of Eaton Mascott, near Shrewsbury, the son of Roxy Music singer Bryan Ferry, allegedly attacked a hunt monitor and robbed another while they tried to film him at his sport last year.
Ferry, 25, who arrived this morning at Gloucester Crown Court, sitting at Cirencester Magistrates Court, denies robbing Helen Ghalmi of a video camera belonging to Susan Grima on November 21 at Lower Swell, near Cheltenham.
Ferry, who gave his name as Charles Frederick Otis Ferry, also pleaded not guilty to assaulting Helen Ghalmi by beating on the same date.
The incident is alleged to have taken place while Ferry was with the Heythrop Hunt, which covers Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.
Members of campaign groups Protect Our Wild Animals and the League Against Cruel Sports distributed anti-hunt flyers to anyone entering the courthouse.
A jury was sworn in and then dismissed by Judge Martin Picton until 2.15pm.
