Teenager hurt as youths film attack

Thursday 11th September 2008, 11:50AM BST.

A 16-year-old boy suffered a fractured jaw in a so-called “happy slapping” attack carried out by three youths in broad daylight in Telford.

The victim was verbally abused and punched in the head.

He was barged to the ground by one of the suspects while another is believed to have filmed the “unprovoked attack” on his mobile phone.

They fled following the attack on the bridge in Ironmasters Way near Telford town centre between 6.15pm and 6.20pm on September 3. They ran off towards the Windsor Life building.

Chris Ammonds, for Telford police, said: “This seems to be an unprovoked attack and we are keen to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The male that attacked the victim is described as being white, around 17 years old and about 5ft 9ins tall.

“He is also described as having a ‘chubby’ build, short ginger hair and as wearing a baby blue sports jacket and dark-coloured tracksuit bottoms.

“The second member is also described as being white and aged around 17, but he is described as being 5ft 3ins tall with short brown shaved hair and had a muscley build. It is thought that he may have filmed this incident on his mobile phone.

“The third male is described a being white, aged around 19 and roughly 5ft 11ins tall with a slim build.”

He is also said to have had a tattoo on the back of his neck and a ‘pin-up doll’ tatoo on his right arm.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 08457 444888.
