Hibbert nose job latest blow

Dave HibbertShrewsbury Town are facing up to a potential attacking injury headache after Dave Hibbert joined two fellow forwards on the casualty list.

Hibbert sustained a broken nose from an accidental collision in training yesterday.

And while there remains optimism the 22-year-old will be available for Saturday’s home game against Gillingham, it is an ill-timed injury for Shrewsbury – who had to do without Richard Walker and Michael Symes at the weekend.

Walker continues his recovery from a hamstring problem – while there was some positive news on Symes, who missed Saturday’s defeat at Morecambe with a knee problem.

“We have got a few little injury worries and Dave Hibbert took a whack in his face challenging for a ball yesterday and broke his nose,” said Simpson.

“It’s just a case of assessing that and hopefully he will be okay for the weekend.

“Michael Symes went to see a specialist yesterday and it was good news.

“It’s just a soft tissue injury so we are talking days rather than weeks that he is going to be out.”

Meanwhile, Simpson has revealed his satisfaction at his side’s 10-point return from the opening five games.

“I’m really pleased with the start we have made,” he added.

“It’s a strange situation because when you go a few games without conceding a goal and go a few games unbeaten, it’s always disappointing when those runs end and people get down about it.

“We were disappointed with Saturday but it’s gone now and it’s about responding in the right way.”

Town’s reserve clash at Mansfield tomorrow night has been postponed because of a clash with the hosts’ FA Youth Cup commitments.

Simpson is hopeful of arranging a behind closed doors friendly for tomorrow afternoon as a replacement.
