Bank raid officers in van plea

Saturday 6th September 2008, 11:10AM BST.

Detectives are trying to trace a silver van which they believe a gang of masked raiders could have used after they dumped their getaway car used in a bank robbery.

The four men, wearing balaclavas, smashed the window of Lloyds TSB in Dawley High Street yesterday morning and grabbed bags and boxes of cash from staff who were filling up the cash machine.

The gang then fled with the cash in a black Golf which was later found dumped in Little Dawley.

Today police said witnesses had come forward to report two men acting suspiciously by a silver Volkswagon van in the Holly Road and Fellows Road area of Little Dawley before the robbery took place between 9am and 9.20am.

Chris Ammonds, spokesman for Telford police, said: “We cannot definitely connect the van and the robbery at this stage but people who reported the van said the men were acting suspiciously and the van has since gone from there.”
