A section of Woodside Avenue, between Westbourne and Ironbridge Road, will be closed for eight weeks from Monday to allow work to be carried out to cap a mineshaft.

Traffic will be diverted via Ironbridge Road, Park Way, Castlefields Way and Woodside Avenue.

And resurfacing work will also start on an accident blackspot on the B5063 at Walton, near High Ercall, on Monday.

The B5063 between High Ercall and Wytheford will be closed for two weeks for a new high friction surface to be laid. Signs highlighting a double bend, where there has been a history of accidents, will be installed.

Motorist will face a lengthy diversion via the B5063, A53, A49 and the B5062.

Councillor Steve Bentley, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “Although many of us do get annoyed at road closures and diversions, we must understand they are necessary and important in order for us to maintain and improve roads for safety reasons, and for the environment.

“In these two newest schemes work includes erecting signage and applying high friction surfacing to reduce the amount of accidents on a notorious part of the B5063.”
