Hunt kennels move backed by planners

Thursday 4th September 2008, 10:55AM BST.

Plans for new hunt kennels in north Shropshire have been approved despite concerns from residents.

North Shropshire District Council’s development control committee approved the plans for a site at Greenfields, Ossage Lane, Whixall, yesterday.

The kennels will see accommodation for up to 80 dogs for the North Shropshire Hunt, as well as on-site accommodation for staff.

The plans were given the thumbs-up despite concerns raised by residents about noise and unpleasant smells.

But Duncan Ferguson said having had to move only once in over 100 years, the hunt had been through things “extremely thoroughly” and described the hunt as a “responsible” member of the community.

He added they were optimistic many of the objections would prove unfounded.

I thought that they weren’t allowed more than 2 dogs to hunt with now and that they were all lossing their jobs due to the ban.

Nice to see NSDC doing the right thing! I’m sure it will be lovely and if anyone living next to it doesnt like it, I’ll gladly swap places with them.

I feel really sorry for any residents living in close proximity to this! I live next to two dogs who bark constantly, so to live next to 80 would be a nightmare!

Mandy, contact your Council if the dog barking really is a problem – they have powers to deal with it.

Again the old school tie network at work.

Is it really surprising that this got through the planning process!!!

Adam: Thats right, Hunting with hounds was banned as such, but there’s no law about keeping hounds. If fact hunting has now become more popular than ever since the law was changed. I dont see why there is so much resentment of these people who want to dress up and exercise their hounds and horses to an artifical scent.

Andrew: Perhaps if 40 people all take 2 dogs, then its ok?

Some people still refuse to accept we now live in the 21st century and as such chasing after wild animals on horseback should be resigned to the past.Next we’ll be told that cock fighting, bear baiting etc should be reintroduced to “help” control the population. Pathetic.
