Kirstie was horse riding champion
Tuesday 2nd September 2008, 11:05AM BST.
The missing daughter of Shropshire millionaire Chris Foster had won a top horse riding prize in a show just three days before the blaze and had planned to compete again four days later.
Kirstie Foster devoted her life to her horses with friends saying she was at her happiest when she was riding her beloved horses.
Three of the family’s horses were shot dead before the blaze ripped through the £1.15million Osbaston House in Maesbrook one week ago today.
Kirstie’s mother Jill, 49, was found dead in the rubble of the house on Friday. Kirstie and her 50-year-old father are still “unaccounted for”.
Two further bodies have also been recovered but have not yet been identified. One is an adult male.
Geraldine Jones, from Oswestry, was a friend of the Foster family through their love of horses.
Breaking down in tears today, she said: “Kirstie was a super girl – a girl any mum would be proud to have as a daughter.”
The 15-year-old is a member of Area 12 (Wales) of the British Show Pony Society.
The talented rider won the Champion Show Pony trophy at Berriew Show just three days before the blaze.
Janet Rowlands, chairman of Area 12, was a judge at the show and was wooed by Kirstie’s performance on her horse Hollowmarsh Violet.
“Kirstie rode exceptionally well and she was a worthy winner. She was on Hollowmarsh which I think was one of the horses killed,” Mrs Rowlands said.
“She was also entered into Llanfair Show on Saturday as well. It’s just awful.”
Rowena Andrews, horse section secretary of Berriew Show added: “Kirstie competed at the show on the Saturday before and she won a cup.
“I knew her face from around the shows – they were always at the shows as a family and they always seemed fine.
“She was a nice little girl. She had also entered Llanfair Show the following Saturday. She was a very good rider and they had some beautiful ponies.”
Laura Morton, 20, was a gap student working at Ellesmere College when Kirstie joined in 2006. She said she was given the job of showing Kirstie around the school and taking her to her first classes.
Laura, from Australia, said: “She (Kirstie) was just the nicest girl and it is so unfair that this has happened.
“My heart goes out to all of Ellesmere College, it’s a very tight knit community.”
