The Odeon in Telford is hosting the showings all this week with subtitles across the bottom of the screen to encourage cinema-goers to create a party atmosphere by singing and dancing. The film is the best-selling musical of all time with people lining up in the county to catch it for a second or even third time.

Now bosses at Telford’s multi-screen cinema are planning a charity Mamma Mia! event on Tuesday to raise vital cash for the Severn Hospice.

The film is certainly the hit of the summer but could even overtake Titanic as the best-selling film of all time with audiences making the most of its feel-good factor.

And fans who attended the first sing-a-long screening were in no doubt that it is a winner in every possible way.Sarah Ainsworth, 37, from Priorslee, was an Abba fan first-time around and couldn’t wait to see the film with her daughter Amy, 13.

“It’s the third time we have been and we just love it,” said Sarah. “It really lifts your mood and you feel great when you come out of the cinema. We will probably be back again and the sing-a-long just adds to the fun.”

Also thankful for the music were Sam Jackways, Chloe McGlynn and Emma Jackways, from Telford.

“It was fantastic, a brilliant film,” said Sam. “No wonder people want to see it more than once.”

The film stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Julie Walters and Colin Firth and proves that big-budget movies riddled with special effects are no longer the automatic must-see.
