Adams eyes futsal again but Bucks will be first
Thursday 28th August 2008, 11:30AM BST.
Midfielder Jon Adams is preparing to resume his international futsal career – but insists it will not affect his AFC Telford commitments.
The former Leamington man is a keen player of futsal, which is the FIFA-approved version of five-a-side, and is a regular in the England team.
He has previously played in tournaments around the world and broke his goalscoring duck as the national team recorded their first ever win, against Greece, last season.
The 23-year-old chose to put his club career first throughout the 2007-08 campaign though, even swerving a World 5s competition in Kuala Lumpar to turn out for the Bucks.
And, while admitting he is keen to pull on the England shirt whenever possible, he insists he will make Telford his priority whenever there is a clash of fixtures.”We start back at futsal with a training session at Lilleshall next month and we start playing in October with a tournament in France,” revealed Adams.
“There’s games every month then until February, when the World Cup qualifiers start.
“I wouldn’t like to be missing any Telford games to be involved, but we’ll see what happens. If the England games are in midweek and Telford aren’t playing then I’ll speak to the gaffer (Rob Smith) abut it.
“But I think it might be much the same as last season – if it clashes then Telford comes first.”
Adams joined the Bucks in August 2007 but took until January to really cement a regular place in the team.
He has started every game of the present Blue Square North season so far, but is not about to rest on his laurels.
“I’ve got to work very hard to keep my place because everybody has seen that the quality throughout the squad is superb,” he added.
“We haven’t got as big a squad as last season but overall the quality is better, so I’ve got to work hard and keep doing my bit for the side.”
