Man, 21, on stabbing charge

Tuesday 26th August 2008, 11:50AM BST.

A 21-year-old Telford man was due to appear before the town’s magistrates today in connection with a stabbing incident in Wellington.

The man, from Wrockwardine Wood, was charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

It relates to an incident in the Station Road and Parade area of Wellington between midnight and 1.30am on Saturday.

A man in his 20s suffered serious injuries, including stab wounds, and was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford where he remains.

The accused was one of four people arrested following the attack. Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said the other three, two men and a woman, had since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

He added: “The injured man underwent surgery yesterday and he came through that fine. He is in a comfortable condition.

“It is likely that the prosecution will today make an application for the accused man to be remanded in custody.”
