Edwards recalls words of ex-boss
Monday 25th August 2008, 11:50AM BST.
Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards revealed his unusual inspiration behind his latest goal – former boss Kevin Blackwell.
Edwards scored his second goal in as many games coming off the bench in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Ipswich.

But he said the Sheffield United boss – who used to manage Edwards at Luton – nagged him non-stop to follow up shots.
The constant reminders paid off at Portman Road as the 22-year-old stabbed home after Matt Jarvis’s shot bounced off keeper Richard Wright’s chest.
“When I was at Luton last season I played that role quite a lot – playing off the striker and the manager Kevin Blackwell used to tell me constantly every day in training ‘follow up the shots’,” said Edwards.
“And I remember a couple of times I didn’t follow up the shot and he really got on my back about it!
“I do it naturally now and it’s paid off because I scored two or three like that for Luton last season and I’m adding to it now.
“As soon as I saw ‘Jarvo’ cut inside I thought I’d better head straight towards the keeper because I was hoping ‘Jarvo’ would get it on target and he did.
“So many goals are scored from the goalline to eight yards out, so I wouldn’t mind scoring 10 of those a season.”
Edwards is looking to start games after again impressing as a substitute.
“‘Super-sub’ is not something I want to tagged with because I want to be starting, but it’s nice to get goals and I could have had four on Saturday,” he said.
Edwards said boss Mick McCarthy had reminded them there is room for improvement.
Wolves were today anxiously waiting for an injury update on left-back George Elokobi who was stretchered off in the second half with a leg injury.
