Midfielder David Hunt has revealed his frustration at being a bystander in Shrewsbury’s promising start to the League Two campaign.Midfielder David Hunt has revealed his frustration at being a bystander in Shrewsbury’s promising start to the League Two campaign.

Hunt had hoped to make a big impression at the start of the new season after being frustrated in his quest for first-team football in the second half of last term.

But a knee injury has left the former Northampton Town man kicking his heels.

Estimates earlier this week suggested Hunt faces another three weeks on the sidelines.

And, while the 25-year-old is reluctant to discuss a likely date for his return, he is disappointed at the timing of his injury.

“Pre-season was probably one of the best I have had for a long time and everyone was looking really strong. So to get the injury when I did was very frustrating,” said Hunt.

“I felt it after about 20 minutes of the Stoke game and it was uncomfortable.

Right

“I tried to keep going through the following week but it wouldn’t go away and it wouldn’t have been right to say I was fit for the first game when I knew there was something up.

“Last season has been and gone and I was really looking forward to this season so it was the worst possible time to get the injury.

“All I can do now is work hard to get back and fight for my shirt as soon as I can – hopefully the lads can keep winning.”

Meanwhile, Shrewsbury’s encouraging opening to the season hasn’t gone unnoticed by the bookmakers.

Town were one of the market leaders before a ball was even kicked – and have now been promoted to undisputed favourites with all the main betting firms.

And Ladbrokes have Paul Simpson’s men as short as 7-2 to lift the League Two title.
