Name of football team is unveiled
Friday 22nd August 2008, 11:50AM BST.
An Oswestry-based Welsh Premier League club has announced its new name.
The New Saints will be officially known as The New Saints of Oswestry Town and Llansantffraid.
Club managing director Mike Harris said the new title reflected supporters’ calls for Oswestry to be reflected in the club’s name.
He said a fans’ poll was held recently and the result was that supporters wanted Oswestry in the club’s title but also wanted the club’s history at Llansantffraid to be recognised.
Mr Harris said: “The new name reflects that we are based at The Venue in Oswestry but play in the Welsh league structure.
“I think this name takes us forward and reflects what the club is.”
Mr Harris added the club, which was known until recently as TNS, also has a new blue and white kit. It will be unveiled at the next home game on August 29 against Prestatyn.
